FSO Anchor Piles – Vietnam (2008)

In 2008, an APE 200-6 was successfully used by CAPE Holland to install 9 anchor piles for a Floating Storage and Offloading (FSO) vessel off the coast of Vietnam in South China Sea. A vibro hammer was selected for this job to have a 1 lift operation for deployment and installation. It also eliminated the need for an installation frame on the seabed and made it possible to extract the pile if conditions proved to be too hostile for a full penetration drive. The verticality was checked by use on an ROV which mounted itself to the pile after which the various measurements were taken to establish the inclination. All piles were driven to near the mud line and driven to below mud line with impact hammer in combination with follower.

Reasons for equipment choice

  • No guiding frame required
  • Stable pile before placing impact hammer
  • Option to extract if out of tolerance
  • Subsea capabilities
  • Contingency for removal stack follower
